The Water and Environment Business Unit advises clients on River Engineering and Flood Risk Management solutions, including flood defence structures, weirs, gates, sluices, flood storage reservoirs, natural flood management, habitat creation, hydrometric gauging facilities and fish passes. Our integrated Water Catchment Management team delivers sustainable environmental solutions across the UK, Europe and beyond.
As an Apprentice Surface Water Management Engineer you will work as part of a multi‑disciplinary team on diverse projects, contributing to design and construction of landmark projects, Sustainable Drainage schemes and climate‑change resilience initiatives. This role offers exposure to a wide range of projects and supports your growth into areas of personal interest.
Responsibilities- Assist in the design and construction of flood defence and water management projects.
- Support the development of Sustainable Drainage (SuDS) schemes.
- Collaborate with senior engineers and multidisciplinary teams to deliver solutions.
- Contribute to project documentation, drawings and reporting.
- Participate in site visits, surveys and data collection.
- Apply civil engineering principles to real‑world challenges.
- A minimum of 120 UCAS tariff points or equivalent.
- A keen interest in civil engineering and surface water management.
- Strong communication and team‑working skills.
- Flexible, proactive and self‑starter qualities.
- Ability to adapt, prioritise and juggle work and study demands.
- Enthusiasm and curiosity to solve real‑world problems.
- Empathy and listening skills to understand client requirements.
- Interest in diverse experiences – e.g., volunteering, sports leadership, etc.
- Permanent right to work in the UK.
