About the role
The Senior/Principal Power System Engineer will support our Future Energy & Power Systems team by modelling and performing a range of power system studies for major global clients. The role involves leading and delivering project services across generation, transmission, distribution, renewables, storage and industrial systems, with occasional travel between UK offices.
Key Responsibilities
- Power system modelling and model verification
- Feasibility studies, including load flow and fault level assessments
- Determining equipment performance specifications
- Grid Code compliance studies
- Interconnection/impact studies
- Electromagnetic Transient (EMT) studies – insulation coordination, transient recovery voltage, transient overvoltage and lightning studies
- Producing coherent and concise technical reports
- Contributing technical material and effort estimates to proposals
- Leading and delivering study activities: modelling, simulation, results analysis and reporting
- Leading and contributing to client meetings & presentations, technical discussions, etc.
- Collaborating with team members across the UK and globally on transmission, distribution, renewables and industrial systems studies
- Working on projects integrating low‑carbon technologies into the network
- Developing innovation projects and securing funding through mechanisms such as the Network Innovation Allowance and Strategic Innovation Fund
Qualifications
- Minimum a Degree in electrical engineering or higher (Master’s or PhD preferred)
- Membership of a recognised professional institution at a Chartered level (preferred)
- Proficient in power system modelling and analysis using DIgSILENT, PSS/E, ETAP and PSCAD software
- Previous work experience in power systems, utilities and renewable projects
