Position: Project Engineer B&C (Structures)

As Senior Project Engineer B&C (Structures) reporting to the Programme Engineering Manager, you'll have responsibility for leading the development and implementation of the B&C (Structures) Central Route NW&C for ASPRO, Enhancement Development and Self-Delivery. You will lead a team of multi-disciplinary Project Engineer's (Track/Off Track, Structures, Drainage and Geotech), supporting the project engineering of civils works undertaken across the teams. You and your team will undertake the day-to-day assurance of designs and/or construction activities for engineering activities on allocated projects.

In addition to the specific B&C Structures design and construction responsibilities this role is required to undertake the duties of Designated Project Engineer on multi discipline Railway Projects joining an established multi-disciplinary team to manage design and/or construction activities for engineering activities on allocated projects. Managing so that appropriate engineering standards are used in relation to design and/or construction within the programme with compliance to the requirements of the PACE (Project Acceleration in a Controlled Environment), relevant legislation, Railway Group and company standards, and Network Rail procedures.

You will be a self-motivated individual leading engineering development to fruition for projects implemented within the Programme and monitor whether suitably qualified and experienced staff are employed to control engineering aspects of all projects within the functional discipline. This role is based in Baskerville House office in Birmingham. You will be required to be in the office at minimum of 3 days per week.

The role will also involve flexible working from other offices and site locations as and when necessary.

What you will be doing

Every day is different but you will play a key role in delivering digital railway projects safely, efficiently and to a high standard. You will lead the implementation of digital railway systems, ensuring compliance with legislation, Railway Group and company standards, and environmental policies. The role involves applying robust engineering controls, risk assessment techniques, and HAZOP analysis, while providing technical guidance and oversight to Project Engineers across the programme.

You will also be responsible for assuring competence across contractors and project teams, overseeing design, construction, testing and commissioning activities, and supporting project and programme management. This includes carrying out audits, reviews and accident investigations, fulfilling the duties of a Designated Project Engineer (DPE), and ensuring all works meet Network Rail engineering management standards and CDM regulations.

Qualifications
  • Significant experience in engineering disciplines, ideally with involvement in construction and design projects across multi-discipline areas
  • Technical qualifications to at least HND level or equivalent
  • Membership of a relevant professional institution
  • Experience of major contracting
  • Knowledge of structuring safety cases in support of projects
  • Knowledge of safety management and quality assurance
  • Understanding of the arrangements required for the independent assessment of works
  • Accident investigation experience
Desirable qualifications
  • Six Sigma Yellow Belt
  • Chartered status or equivalent in the particular discipline
  • Appreciation of environmental issues in engineering works.
Salary and Benefits

Salary: starting from £55,596 raising to £62,546 per annum. Network Rail adheres to a structured pay framework, any salary offered will be within the pay range advertised.
