We have a brand-new opportunity to join our Operational Assets team in the Birmingham office. The team merges property consulting, design engineering and data-led building performance engineering to provide a rounded service to clients, creating value through building life cycles.

What You’ll Be Doing
  • Lead and deliver on projects for existing and new clients while supporting the regional lead in planning specialist delivery for the Operational Assets group.
  • Provide focus on work delivery, organisational support and team growth to support local and regional clients.
  • Demonstrate leadership capabilities, supervising and guiding team members and other staff.
  • Collaborate with other teams to deliver a wide variety of projects with regular workload and management discussions.
  • Assist in recruiting, training and developing team members to ensure ongoing succession and growth of the Practice.
  • Undertake own design, specification and site monitoring activities.
  • Monitor commissioning and conduct post-occupancy engineering services activities.
  • Write technical reports (feasibility, issue investigation, condition surveys, etc.).
  • Liaise with clients (commercial and project management awareness).

The role involves working on a varied portfolio of frameworks and projects, predominantly UK-based with some overseas opportunities. You will lead and deliver on small projects up to a few £million and provide technical support to end users, landlords, management agents and project teams.

The Operational Assets focus areas include:

  • Decarbonisation, performance improvements and energy reduction to reduce energy consumption and achieve decarbonisation/ net zero targets using pragmatic approaches and emerging technologies.
  • Design – specialising in challenging existing buildings across all RIBA stages, developing innovative design solutions to meet current needs and standards.
  • Property consultancy – providing a suite of property management, operation and transaction services, including technical due diligence, dilapidations, maintenance reports, validations management, asset registers, troubleshooting, energy optimisation surveys and EPCs.

Projects span Commercial Offices, Retail, Residential, Education, Healthcare, MoJ, Defence, Heritage, Industrial and Technology sectors.

About You

To be successful in this role you’ll need:

  • Qualified design engineer (chartered status or working towards).
  • Experience working on projects in existing buildings (refurbishment and fit-out).
  • Excellent written and spoken English skills.
  • Strong knowledge of data and metering.
  • Experience with performance specification and detailed design work, contract administration and site duties.
  • Experience in Building Services collectively (all-rounder).
  • Willingness and strong technical knowledge in primary engineering discipline with a good understanding of secondary engineering discipline.
  • Comfortable with UK and applicable EU regulations, design guides, etc.
  • Excellent organisational and planning skills to effectively work to timescales and deadlines.
  • Able to develop effective relationships with well-developed interpersonal and influencing skills.
  • Proven track record in work winning and building successful teams.
