WSP is seeking engineering professionals to join our expanding North West and Midlands Roads business. We provide design services for a diverse range of projects, supporting private developers, local authorities in the North West and Midlands, and national clients such as National Highways, National Grid, and East West Rail.
Responsibilities- Contributing to the development of highway designs for a diverse range of sectors, clients and projects through all stages of the project life cycle.
- Preparation of Works Information including specifications, technical reports and risk assessments.
- Support Project Managers to ensure schemes are delivered to budget, programme, technical standards and legal requirements.
- Work collaboratively with clients, key stakeholders and internal teams.
- On an ad hoc basis, support our projects with site supervision activities, monitoring Contractor's compliance with the Contract and ensuring works are in line with the Works Information.
- You will be supported by a team of experienced and developing technical staff of various grades, to whom you will be expected to provide guidance and support as appropriate.
- A passion for design and developing innovative solutions, demonstrating initiative and ingenuity to solve engineering problems.
- A degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent within a highway design role.
- Working towards CEng or IEng with demonstrable progress.
- Relevant knowledge and experience of highway design at various stages of the project life cycle. Specific experience in road geometry, roundabouts, at‑grade and grade-separated junctions, inclusive active travel, highway drainage systems, road restraint systems, traffic sign and road marking design is advantageous.
- Knowledge of the relevant design codes such as the Design Manual for Roads & Bridges, Manual for Streets, TSRGD, TSM, Local Authority design guidance and experience preparing drawings for contract documentation and technical approvals including the application of departures from standard.
- The ability to use relevant software such as Autodesk Civils 3D, Bentley Open Roads Designer, Info Drainage and/or Causeway Flow.
- Experience of complying with Designers’ Duties under CDM regulations.
