Principal Structural Engineer – Responsibilities
- Lead the design and delivery of structural engineering solutions across a range of building projects.
- Act as Project Lead, managing resources, programme, budget and client relationships.
- Produce and review design calculations, reports, specifications and drawings.
- Oversee structural designs in steel, concrete, timber and masonry.
- Ensure compliance with relevant codes, standards and best practice.
- Coordinate with architects, MEP engineers and other disciplines within a BIM environment.
- Provide technical leadership and guidance to engineers and technicians.
- Mentor and support junior staff, contributing to their professional development.
- Attend and lead client and design team meetings.
- Contribute to business development, including bid submissions and client engagement.
- Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
- Significant experience in structural design within a consultancy environment (buildings-focused).
- Proven track record of leading projects and managing teams.
- Strong technical expertise across a range of structural materials.
- Excellent communication and client‑facing skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and deliver to deadlines.
- Chartered Engineer (CEng) status (e.g. via IStruct
E or ICE). - Experience working within a multidisciplinary consultancy.
- Familiarity with BIM processes and collaborative design environments.
- Interest or experience in sustainable and low‑carbon design.
