Senior Engineer - Structures (Highways)
Location:
London / Birmingham / Manchester | Rate: £50-60 per hour | Inside IR35 |
Hours:
Full-time, 37.5 hours per week, flexible hybrid working.
We are looking for a Senior Engineer to join a Structures Team delivering major highways projects across the UK. This role involves managing the delivery of technical outputs for multiple projects, ensuring design quality, compliance with standards, and overall technical excellence.
Key Responsibilities- Lead and deliver technical outputs for projects, including scheme investigation, detailed design, and construction supervision.
- Act as Lead Designer, reviewing and authorising design deliverables (drawings, specifications, reports, and contract documents).
- Conduct inspections, assessments, and feasibility studies of highway and bridge structures.
- Mentor and develop junior engineers, technicians, and graduates.
- Contribute to technical excellence, innovation, and value engineering across the team.
- Ensure compliance with company management systems, Health & Safety, and risk management processes.
- Maintain strong relationships within project teams and stakeholders.
- Degree in Civil/Structural Engineering or equivalent.
- Approaching or Chartered Engineer status (MICE, MIStruct
E, or equivalent). - Broad experience in inspection, assessment, design, and construction of highway and bridge structures to UK standards.
- Experience designing structures to Eurocodes.
- Valid UK driving licence.
- Ability to work independently and carry out technical compliance checks.
- Experience on design and build contracts.
- Knowledge of project management processes and performance appraisal of staff.
