Job Description & How to Apply Below
At STRABAG UK, we’re looking for a Technical Controller to join our growing Build Division and play a pivotal role in ensuring technical compliance, design coordination, and quality throughout the project lifecycle.
Qualifications- HND or Degree qualification in Civil Engineering, Quantity Surveying or a related subject.
- Competent in the use of MS-Office products.
- An understanding of cost estimating software, ideally iTWO (training will be available).
- Experience in a suitable role in construction or engineering.
- Independent, analytical and result-oriented way of thinking and acting.
- Committed to professional delivery with accuracy and detail.
- Willingness to work on a construction site.
- High level of commitment and initiative.
- The Technical Controlling role is a specific and crucial role established within the STRABAG Group globally. Technical Controlling is a result‑driven, internally focused project management system. It combines typically UK Quantity Surveying and Cost Engineering responsibilities to ensure compliance, transparency, and alignment with Group‑wide processes.
- Are you an experienced Quantity Surveyor or Site Engineer looking for a career pivot that offers higher visibility and strategic impact?
- We are looking for internal and external candidates to join the growing Technical Controlling function. This is a unique "Dual Role" opportunity: you will retain and use your core professional skills (QS or Engineering) whilst specialising in the critical financial and operational standards that drive STRABAG's success.
- This role is the primary bridge between Site Operations and the Business Unit. You will not just report on the numbers; you will influence them.
- Unlike a standard commercial role, this position allows you to:
- Stay close to the action: you remain integrated with the on‑site delivery team, applying your practical construction knowledge daily.
- Gain high‑level exposure: you will report directly into the controlling function, giving you visibility with Project Management and Sub‑Division Directors that is not common on a project basis.
- Master the "Strabag Way": you will become the project expert on Common Project Standards (CPS) and our internal processes, making you a highly valuable asset to the Group.
- Operational Control:
Use your technical/commercial background to monitor costs, revenue/results, productivity, and budgets in real‑time, preventing issues before they impact the bottom line. - The Bridge:
Act as the interface between the Project Manager and the Business Unit, translating site activities into accurate financial data. - Forecasting:
Proactively identify deviations from the schedule and cost forecasts using your engineering/QS judgment. - System Integrity:
Ensure the accuracy of the Working Budget and Estimates with iTWO, ensuring the data reflects reality. - Process Champion:
Drive the "Feedback Loop", capturing lessons learned from the site and feeding them back to Pre‑Construction to improve future tenders.
- This is a development role for high‑potential internal staff. We are looking for:
- Current Role: A Quantity Surveyor or Site Engineer currently working within Strabag or other main contractors.
- Experience:
Proven experience on site with a strong understanding of how projects are built and managed. - Mindset:
You are "Process‑Driven" but "Practical". You understand the importance of the CPS but know how to apply it to real site challenges. - Ambition:
You want to move beyond day‑to‑day transactional work and into strategic analysis and reporting.
- Mentorship:
Direct support from the Head of Technical Controlling and Senior Controllers. - Autonomy:
The chance to "own" the controlling function for your project(s). - Career Security:
Technical Controlling is a growth area for the Build Sub‑Division. As we scale to new Business Units and win further projects, your specialised skillset will be in high demand. - Opportunity to work and have a lasting impact on landmark UK projects.
- Collaborative and innovative working environment.
- Professional development and career progression.
- Competitive salary and benefits package including private health cover, 9% pension and 25 days holiday.
- We stand for respect, partnership, and sustainability, creating a work environment that promotes safety, health, and development. Our committed and healthy employees are our most valuable asset – the foundation for sustainable growth and innovation. With our "People. Planet. Progress." strategy and the motto WORK ON PROGRESS, we drive change forward – with the goal of climate neutrality by 2040.
