ATA Recruitment are working closely with a leading developer of advanced robotic systems to recruit a Design & Development Engineer for their growing engineering team in Birmingham.
This is a fantastic opportunity to join an innovative, R&D-driven business that designs and assembles cutting-edge robotic technology used to carry out inspections in difficult-to-access and safety-critical environments. Their products help eliminate the need for personnel to work at height by utilising sophisticated wall-climbing robotic systems.
The successful candidate will play a key role in the development of new products, taking concepts from initial idea through design, prototyping, testing and manufacture. This role would suit a Mechanical Design Engineer or Product Development Engineer who thrives on solving complex engineering challenges and wants to see their designs brought to life.
The RoleAs a Design & Development Engineer, you will be responsible for:
- Taking new product development projects from concept through to manufacture.
- Creating 3D CAD models and detailed engineering drawings.
- Developing proof-of-principle designs and prototypes.
- Designing complex mechanical assemblies and mechanisms.
- Liaising with suppliers and subcontract manufacturers to source prototype and production components.
- Building and testing prototype equipment.
- Supporting product validation and development activities.
- Producing technical documentation and manufacturing information.
- Working closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams including mechanical, electronics and software engineers.
You will be involved in the development of innovative robotic systems incorporating:
- Complex mechanical assemblies
- Pulley and belt drive systems
- CNC machined components
- Sheet metal fabrications
- 3D printed parts
- Aluminium and plastic enclosures
To be considered for this position, you should have:
- Experience with in a Design Engineering, Product Development or R&D environment.
- Strong 3D CAD experience (Solid Works preferred, although other CAD packages will be considered).
- Experience developing products from concept through to manufacture.
- Experience producing detailed manufacturing drawings.
- A hands‑on approach to engineering and prototype development.
