Associate Mechanical Engineer (Hybrid) – Birmingham

The Associate Mechanical Engineer role in Birmingham is a permanent position offering a salary between £65,000 and £75,000 per annum. This hybrid‑working post sits within a privately owned, multi‑disciplinary consultancy that delivers integrated engineering and development services across the UK. The firm provides coordinated solutions for complex infrastructure and development schemes, collaborating with developers, commercial clients and public sector bodies.

Overview

As an Associate Mechanical Design Engineer you will lead mechanical design projects, oversee technical delivery and support business growth. The role demands strong design expertise, project management skills and the ability to guide junior engineers, offering genuine career progression within a respected consultancy.

Responsibilities
  • Lead and manage mechanical building services design across a variety of sectors and project types.
  • Produce and review mechanical calculations, drawings, specifications and technical reports.
  • Take responsibility for mechanical design solutions including HVAC systems, heating, cooling, ventilation and associated building services.
  • Oversee and contribute to drawing production using AutoCAD and Revit.
  • Provide technical leadership from concept design through to detailed design, coordination and construction support.
  • Undertake and review surveys of existing mechanical systems, producing clear technical reports.
  • Prepare and review tender documentation, providing technical guidance and support to project teams.
  • Monitor construction progress and provide technical input during project delivery.
  • Support commissioning activities and ensure successful project handover.
  • Build strong working relationships with clients, contractors and wider design teams.
  • Mentor and support junior engineers, helping develop technical capability within the team.
  • Ensure compliance with company QA procedures and promote best practice across all projects.
Qualifications
  • Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Strong mechanical design experience within a Building Services environment.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD and Revit for mechanical drawing production.
  • Demonstrated project management skills and experience delivering projects from concept to handover.
  • Experience in HVAC systems design (heating, ventilation, cooling) for commercial and residential projects.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities, with a focus on client and contractor liaison.
Salary and Benefits

£65,000 to £75,000 per annum, competitive benefits package and hybrid working availability.
