Senior Highway Engineer
An excellent opportunity for an experienced Senior Highway Engineer to join an established highways design team based in Birmingham. The successful candidate will play a key role in delivering a wide range of highway infrastructure projects, providing technical leadership, supporting project delivery, and contributing to the continued growth of the local engineering team.
Key Responsibilities- Lead and deliver highway design projects through all stages of development.
- Provide technical input, design reviews, and engineering solutions for highway schemes.
- Manage and support highway design engineers and coordinate with other technical disciplines.
- Liaise with clients, contractors, and project stakeholders.
- Assist with project planning, resource management, and budget control.
- Support the growth and development of the Birmingham highways team.
- Ensure designs meet relevant standards, specifications, and quality requirements.
- Degree qualified in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
- Chartered Engineer status with a relevant professional institution (or working towards chartership).
- Significant experience within highway engineering design.
- Strong understanding of highway design principles and industry standards.
- Experience delivering highway infrastructure projects.
- Excellent communication and client‑facing skills.
- Ability to lead technical discussions and support junior engineers.
- Experience working on major highways or infrastructure projects.
- Knowledge of highway agreements including Section 38 and Section 278 processes.
- Experience with drainage design and Section 104 agreements.
- Proficiency using:
- AutoCAD
- Civil 3D
- Micro Drainage or similar drainage design software
- Experience managing design packages and coordinating multidisciplinary teams.
