Joining Arup

Arup’s purpose, shared values and collaborative approach have set us apart for 80 years, guiding how we shape a better world.

The Opportunity

As a Mechanical Building Services Engineer, you will play a key role in our Building Services Engineering team, contributing to multidisciplinary projects. You’ll provide guidance to graduates and oversee the work and development of apprentices involved in your projects. Based in either our Birmingham or Nottingham city centre office, you’ll be part of a team of over 30 mechanical engineers and technicians.

Together, these offices form our Midlands Region and are part of a wider Property team of more than 110 civil, structural, electrical, and mechanical engineers.

The Role Will See You
  • Contribute to all stages of projects—from feasibility to completion—across sectors such as advanced manufacturing, healthcare, education, energy, sport, commercial, and mixed‑use developments.
  • Help clients progress toward zero carbon goals through innovative and sustainable design.
  • Support Arup’s digital transformation by exploring automation and integrated digital design solutions.
  • Engage in a culture that encourages individuality, respects, shares and connects diverse experiences, perspectives and ideas.
  • Have the opportunity to do socially useful work that has meaning—to Arup, to your career, to our members and to the clients and communities we serve.
Is this role right for you?

We’re looking for a candidate who brings the following:

  • Ideally has an MEng degree in Mechanical, Architectural, or Building Services Engineering and is working towards/close to obtaining Chartered Engineer status with a relevant institution (e.g., IMechE or CIBSE).
  • Brings experience in Mechanical Building Services design for medium to large-scale projects, including calculations and report writing.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of low or zero carbon technologies and UK Building Regulations/CIBSE design guidance.
  • Is proficient in BIM environments, particularly using Revit, and has experience with dynamic thermal modelling (preferably IES).
  • Is enthusiastic about working across a diverse range of projects and sectors & is experienced enough to be able to mentor and provide guidance to more junior members of the team.

This role does not meet the criteria for visa sponsorship under the UK immigration system. Applicants must have the right to work in the UK.
