Our client is a specialist UK precision manufacturing business supplying components and tooling into the aerospace and energy sectors, working with major blue-chip customers. Due to continued growth and future succession planning, they are looking to invest in a Graduate Engineer who can be developed into a highly capable Manufacturing Engineer and, longer term, progress into a senior engineering or management position.
This is a hands-on engineering role with a structured 12-month training programme covering Electrical Discharge Machining (EDM), precision manufacturing, tooling design, inspection, quality and continuous improvement. The successful graduate will gain practical experience working with complex components to extremely tight tolerances and will be supported by experienced engineers and a dedicated mentor.
Graduate Manufacturing Engineer Job Overview
● Complete structured training in EDM processes, including wire EDM and spark erosion
● Develop an understanding of electrical discharge machining principles, machine controls, electrode/wire wear, flushing, spark energy and process variables
● Learn to read and interpret engineering drawings, tolerances, datums, geometric tolerances and surface finish requirements
● Gain practical experience supporting machine setups, work holding, datum setting, programme checks and first-off inspections
● Develop knowledge of precision manufacturing and materials commonly used within aerospace, including difficult-to-machine and hardened materials
● Assist with micron-level inspection and understand how measurement results are used to control and improve manufacturing processes
● Support the design and development of tooling and fixtures to improve repeatability, rigidity and efficiency
● Work alongside experienced engineers and production staff to identify and resolve manufacturing issues
● Contribute to continuous improvement projects focused on quality, lead time, tooling life, repeatability and production efficiency
● Prepare setup notes, tooling recommendations, process documentation and other engineering information
● Develop an understanding of aerospace quality requirements, traceability, inspection and non-conformance processes
● Progress towards taking responsibility for selected jobs from drawing review through to setup, machining, inspection and completion
