Job Title: Field Service Engineer - HS2 Location: HS2 Project Sites (Southern Section), Coventry, Solihull, Warwick, Birmingham and surrounding areas Contract: Full-time, Permanent Are you an experienced engineer with a background in construction plant, heavy equipment, agricultural machinery, HGVs, or a similar mechanical environment? We're looking for a Field Service Engineer to support our dedicated HS2 operation, providing maintenance, diagnostics, and repair services across one of the UK's largest infrastructure projects.
This is a field-based role supporting equipment operating on the southern section of the HS2 project. To provide the best coverage across the region, we are particularly interested in candidates based in Coventry, Solihull, Warwick, Birmingham, or the surrounding areas
. You'll be responsible for diagnosing faults, carrying out repairs and maintenance, and delivering exceptional customer service while ensuring maximum machine availability and reliability.
Please note:
Applicants must hold an NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in Plant Maintenance, Agricultural Engineering, HGV Maintenance, or a related engineering discipline, and have experience maintaining and repairing construction plant equipment. Applications from candidates who do not meet these requirements are unlikely to be progressed.
In this role, you'll be responsible for servicing, maintaining, diagnosing, and repairing Volvo construction equipment operating across HS2 project sites. Working independently and directly with customers, you'll ensure equipment is maintained to the highest standards while identifying opportunities to improve machine performance and maximise uptime.
Key Responsibilities Include- Carrying out diagnostics, servicing, maintenance, and repairs on Volvo construction equipment and other machinery.
- Identifying and resolving mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and engine-related faults using technical expertise and diagnostic tools.
- Acting as the primary point of contact for customers, providing updates on machine status, repair progress, and recommended actions.
- Completing all job documentation, inspection reports, timesheets, and electronic records accurately and in real time.
- Maintaining high standards of safety, professionalism, housekeeping, and compliance with company and site procedures.
We're looking for a self-motivated and customer-focused engineer with excellent technical knowledge and a commitment to delivering outstanding service.
To Be Successful, You'll Have- NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in Plant Maintenance, Agricultural Engineering, HGV Maintenance, or a related engineering discipline.
- Proven experience maintaining and repairing heavy construction plant, with strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics, drive trains, electrics, and diagnostic systems.
- Advanced fault-finding and problem-solving skills with the ability to work independently in a field-based environment.
- Strong communication and customer service skills, with the confidence to build effective working relationships.
- A full UK driving licence and the flexibility to travel, work overtime, and support customer requirements when needed.
