We are recruiting an experienced Design Manager to support a portfolio of major electricity transmission projects.
The role will involve coordinating and overseeing design activities across multiple schemes, ensuring design outputs are delivered on time, to the required quality and in accordance with relevant technical standards.

Key Responsibilities
Develop, maintain and monitor design programmes across multiple projects
Coordinate design activities with planning, procurement and construction teams
Lead design reviews and coordinate multidisciplinary design teams
Ensure designs meet relevant technical, assurance and CDM requirements
Manage assurance submissions, hold-point reviews and gateway approvals
Maintain design change registers and manage early warnings and compensation events
Assess the impact of design changes on cost, programme and project risk
Manage RFIs, technical queries and design communications
Liaise with clients, designers, OEMs, subcontractors and delivery teams
Identify and manage temporary and permanent works design risks
Support tender development and pre-construction activities
Promote buildability, standardisation, lessons learned and continuous improvement
Support and mentor Assistant Design Managers where required
### Essential Experience
At least 8 years’ experience in design management or a related role
Experience coordinating design inputs across multidisciplinary teams
Previous responsibility for design activities across multiple projects
Experience with in UK electricity transmission or major infrastructure
Strong design programme management and technical assurance experience
Knowledge of NEC change-control processes, including early warnings and compensation events
Strong stakeholder management and project leadership experience
Familiarity with National Grid standards, assurance processes and project expectations

Desirable Experience
Background in HV substations, overhead lines, cable routes or similar transmission assets
Degree in engineering, project management, construction management or a related discipline
Experience working to UK energy transmission and distribution specifications
Experience with in the UK energy sector or another highly regulated industry
Membership of a relevant professional institution
Candidates must be able to attend the Birmingham site for a minimum of three days each week.
