The Opportunity
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Senior Civil Engineer to join a growing civil engineering team based in either central Birmingham or Solihull.
You will play a key role in delivering innovative and practical engineering solutions across a varied portfolio of projects, while helping to develop and strengthen the wider civil engineering capability.
Projects vary considerably in size, complexity and value, giving you exposure to a broad range of infrastructure and development work. This may include:
· Highways and infrastructure design
· Pavement design
· Bridges and associated infrastructure
· Earthworks engineering
· Cut and fill assessments
· Ground remediation
· Underground services
· Flood alleviation
· Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDS)
· Pumping stations and sewerage systems
· External works
· Section 278, Section 38 and Section 104 agreements

Key Responsibilities
As Senior Civil Engineer, you will:
· Manage and coordinate highways and drainage designs for large development and infrastructure projects
· Work closely with other disciplines including architects, building services engineers, project managers and cost consultants
· Produce Flood Risk Assessments, Drainage Strategies, Nutrient Mitigation assessments and other pre-planning advice
· Prepare engineering calculations, drawings, specifications and technical documentation
· Provide day-to-day technical support and advice to clients
· Attend client, design team and project meetings, presenting designs and contributing to key project decisions
· Undertake site visits for technical assessments and problem solving
· Assist with project proposals and bids to help secure new work
· Lead and coordinate project teams where required
· Support and mentor less experienced members of the engineering team
Skills & Experience
To be successful in this role, you should have:
· Previous experience in a similar civil engineering position, ideally within a multi-disciplinary consultancy environment
· Strong post-graduate experience in civil engineering design
· Experience of foul and surface water drainage design
· Experience of minor highways and roadway design
· A strong understanding of drainage design, SuDS, highways and cut-and-fill analysis
· Good working knowledge of AutoCAD, particularly Civil 3D
· Experience with Info Drainage would be advantageous
· Experience designing projects from concept through to completion, including calculations, drawings and specifications
· A good understanding of Sections 38 and 278 of the Highways Act
· Knowledge of Sections 104, 106 and 185 of the Water Industry Act
· Familiarity with Parts H and M of the Building Regulations, British Standards and relevant local authority requirements
· An understanding of Building Information Modelling (BIM) and its application within civil engineering
· Experience working directly with clients and attending client sites
· NEC contract experience would be beneficial
· Previous experience leading or coordinating project teams
· Strong technical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to develop creative solutions to complex engineering challenges
· Excellent communication skills and the ability to explain technical matters clearly to clients and other project stakeholders
Professional Qualifications
Ideally, you will be a Chartered Engineer (CEng) or actively working towards chartership.
Membership of the Institution of Civil Engineers (MICE), an equivalent professional body, or a clear ambition to achieve professional membership would also be advantageous.
