What you’ll be doing
  • Lead a multi-disciplinary engineering team of Transmission Design Engineers responsible for developing the Basic Engineering solutions for major capital projects.
  • Drive innovation, value-led engineering and investment planning decisions to support the Transmission project programme while reducing asset lifecycle costs.
  • Lead and manage a multi-disciplinary engineering team to deliver efficient, cost-effective design solutions.
  • Oversee front-end engineering design across the full SPT Transmission project portfolio.
  • Identify and implement engineering improvements within standard design solutions.
  • Ensure the team is effectively resourced and support organisational change to achieve business objectives.
  • Embed Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality (HSEQ) requirements into all engineering solutions.
  • Solve complex engineering challenges through technical expertise, innovation and sound engineering judgement.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives that enhance project delivery and business performance.
  • Define engineering scope during the early project development phase.
  • Provide technical advice on emerging business requirements and future network needs.
  • Lead, develop and performance manage a team of professional engineers.
  • Support training, coaching and mentoring to build team capability and succession.
What you’ll bring
  • Degree qualified in Engineering.
  • Chartered Engineer status.
  • Strong experience in the design and delivery of large-scale electrical infrastructure or transmission projects.
  • Proven leadership and people management skills.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to build effective stakeholder relationships.
  • Experience applying CDM regulations, designer risk assessment and Health & Safety best practice.
  • Knowledge of innovative engineering technologies and sustainable design solutions.
  • Understanding of transmission plant, equipment and network operation.
  • Minimum Criteria Engineering qualification (BSc/BEng) and/or postgraduate qualification (MBA, MSc) or equivalent experience.
  • Chartered Engineer or equivalent experience.
  • Experience in electrical infrastructure and transmission network design.
  • Previous people management experience.
