AtkinsRéalis is seeking a dynamic and motivated Associate or Associate Director with expertise in land quality assessment to join our award‑winning Contaminated Land and Hydrogeology team within the Sustainable Land and Resource Management Practice, to support with managing project delivery and driving technical excellence. We are seeking an individual with a strong geo‑environmental technical background and experience in the assessment and management of land quality to support the planning, consenting and construction of major infrastructure projects.
The successful candidate will have demonstrable experience of leading and delivering land quality and geology and soils assessments to support EIAs and other environmental consenting applications. Based in either our Exeter, Bristol, Birmingham, Cambridge, Epsom or London office (with flexible hybrid working), you will be part of an award‑winning group of contaminated land experts delivering innovative solutions to major UK infrastructure projects, across the transportation, energy, buildings and places and water markets.

Provide technical leadership on the assessment of land quality for major infrastructure projects including Phase 1 Desk Studies, Phase 2 Site Investigations, remediation design and verification / validation. Lead the coordination, technical delivery and review of land quality and geology and soils assessments for EIAs and other planning and consenting processes (including DCO application), as part of multi‑disciplinary teams. Manage project delivery, including programme management, financial performance, quality assurance and technical review.
Partnering with clients, stakeholders, regulators, sub‑contractors and other internal disciplines to achieve successful project outcomes. Work effectively as part of a team and with other professionals to provide a consistent and integrated service to our clients. Support business development through strategic opportunity review, proposal preparation, tender submissions and client relationship management. Provide technical guidance, constructive support and mentoring to junior staff and supporting their technical development.
Ensure compliance with Health and Safety policies and procedures. Maintain and develop technical competence through continuing professional development, with support from the business.
Higher education qualification in a relevant engineering or science subject (e.g. geology, geography, earth sciences, soil science, hydrogeology and environmental science). Full or Chartered Membership of relevant professional body and preferably SiLC and / or QP. If not Chartered, we would expect the candidate, with our support, to become chartered 6 to 12 months after joining. Demonstrate significant experience in project delivery gained in a contaminated land consultancy environment with a strong technical, people and project management skillset and a track record in winning and delivering high‑profile work.
Technical leadership and delivery of contaminated land scopes (Phase 1 Desk Studies, Phase 2 Site Investigations, remediation design and verification / validation) for a range of projects and clients, with demonstrable understanding of the relevant legislation, technical guidance, industry standards and best practice for contaminated land, materials management, EIA, planning and consenting. Strong working knowledge and understanding of EIA, planning and consenting (including DCO scoping) in relation to land quality, geology and soils including the preparation of supporting technical documentation.
Commercial awareness and understanding including being able to coordinate internal project commercial governance requirements where necessary and complete tenders. Customer focused with good relationship management skills. Ideally you will have experience…
