Job Title:

Senior Civil Engineer - Infrastructure

Location:

Birmingham

Job Type: Permanent

The Opportunity:

We are working with an established engineering consultancy who are looking to appoint a Senior Civil Engineer to join their growing Infrastructure team.

This is a hands-on design position suited to a Civil Engineer with around 7-10 years' experience who can hit the ground running and manage their own design work with minimal supervision.

The team delivers detailed infrastructure design across residential, industrial and commercial developments, covering highways, drainage, access arrangements and technical approvals.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in highways and drainage, with particular experience delivering Section 278 works and access design. Candidates who are stronger in either highways or drainage will also be considered, provided they have a good understanding of the wider discipline and can contribute immediately.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Deliver detailed highways and drainage designs across residential, commercial and industrial developments.
  • Take ownership of your own projects and design packages with minimal supervision.
  • Design internal highways, roads, access arrangements and associated infrastructure.
  • Deliver Section 278 and Section 38 highway works.
  • Develop drainage strategies and detailed drainage designs.
  • Prepare technical drawings, calculations, reports and specifications.
  • Liaise with local authorities and other stakeholders to achieve technical approvals.
  • Work closely with clients, developers, engineers and technicians throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Ensure designs are delivered to the required technical standards, programme and budget.
  • Provide technical support and guidance to more junior members of the team where required.
About You:
  • Approximately 7-10 years' experience within civil/infrastructure engineering.
  • Strong, hands-on experience in highways and/or drainage design.
  • Proven experience working on infrastructure schemes, ideally within residential development.
  • Strong experience with Section 278 and access design.
  • Good understanding of Section 38 works and local authority technical approvals.
  • Comfortable managing your own workload and delivering designs with minimal supervision.
  • A well-rounded understanding of civil infrastructure, with the ability to work across both highways and drainage.
  • Candidates with a stronger highways or drainage background will be considered where they have sufficient knowledge of the other discipline.
  • Experience working with local authority highways teams is highly relevant;
National Highways experience would be advantageous but is not essential.
  • Experience with Civil 3D, SITE3D, AutoCAD, Causeway Flow, PDS or Info Drainage would be beneficial.
  • Degree/HNC/HND in Civil Engineering or a relevant equivalent qualification.
