Senior Mechanical Design Engineer - Building Services

I'm currently recruiting for an experienced Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join a well-established UK building-services engineering consultancy.
This is an excellent opportunity for a technically strong Mechanical Engineer who enjoys remaining hands-on with design while also taking ownership of projects, working directly with clients and supporting junior engineers.
The successful candidate will work across complex building-services projects, taking responsibility for mechanical design delivery from concept through detailed design and construction.
What You'll Be Doing- Lead the mechanical design and delivery of building-services projects.
- Produce and review detailed HVAC and mechanical-services designs
. - Undertake engineering calculations including heating/cooling loads, ventilation, pipework and system sizing.
- Select and specify mechanical plant and equipment.
- Produce technical specifications, schedules, drawings and design documentation.
- Work across different stages of the project lifecycle.
- Coordinate mechanical designs with electrical, structural, architectural and other disciplines.
- Attend client and design-team meetings and provide technical guidance.
- Resolve technical issues throughout design and construction.
- Review project deliverables and maintain high technical and quality standards.
- Support, mentor and guide junior members of the engineering team.
- Degree/HNC/HND or equivalent qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services Engineering or a related discipline.
- Strong experience in mechanical building-services design
, ideally within a consultancy environment. - Good technical knowledge of systems such as:
- HVAC
- Heating and cooling
- Ventilation
- LTHW / CHW
- Domestic water
- Pumps and plant
- Mechanical pipework systems
- Experience completing mechanical design calculations and equipment selection.
- Knowledge of relevant UK Building Regulations, CIBSE guidance and industry standards
. - Experience with AutoCAD and/or Revit
; exposure to IES, Hevacomp or similar design software would be advantageous. - Ability to take ownership of projects and communicate confidently with clients and multidisciplinary design teams.
- Previous experience supporting or mentoring junior engineers would be beneficial.

You should have a genuine building-services / MEP design background
. This role is not suited to mechanical engineers whose experience is primarily automotive, manufacturing, product design or maintenance.
You'll join an established engineering consultancy where you can remain technically involved in design while taking on greater responsibility for projects, clients and junior team members.
