We have a fantastic opportunity for a permanent Assistant Mechanical Engineer to join our Advisory team - a vibrant, inclusive community that celebrates our differences and makes a real impact across the UK.

The Role

As an Assistant Mechanical Engineer, you will work under the guidance of experienced engineers, supporting the delivery of technically sound mechanical building services solutions across a diverse range of projects. You will assist in the preparation of designs, calculations, drawings and technical documentation while contributing to projects that meet quality, cost and programme requirements.

Key Responsibilities Include
  • Assist in the production of technically sound mechanical engineering and building services solutions in line with relevant technical standards and client requirements.
  • Support the preparation of designs, calculations, specifications, drawings and project documentation.
  • Work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams to deliver successful project outcomes.
  • Assist with the design and coordination of mechanical building services systems, including heating, ventilation, air conditioning and public health services.
  • Support engineers in developing practical and compliant technical solutions.
  • Contribute to the production of scheme deliverables while ensuring quality, programme and budget objectives are achieved.
  • Assist in identifying, assessing and communicating project hazards and risks.
  • Support compliance with health, safety and welfare requirements, including CDM Regulations.
  • Build strong working relationships with colleagues, clients, contractors and suppliers.
  • Undertake site visits, inspections and surveys where required.
  • Support project delivery across a variety of sectors and disciplines.
  • Carry out general office duties associated with the successful operation of a consulting engineering business.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement by following established procedures and best practices.
What You Will Bring To Us
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Understanding of engineering theory and principles, with the ability to apply these in practice.
  • Knowledge of mechanical building services design principles and technical standards.
  • Understanding of technical and specification processes within an engineering environment.
  • Good competence with engineering software packages and analytical tools.
  • Awareness of commercial considerations associated with project delivery.
  • Understanding of the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations and risk assessment principles.
  • Good communication skills with the ability to present technical information clearly and professionally.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Understanding of the interfaces between engineering disciplines.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage priorities effectively.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development and progression towards professional registration.
Desirable
  • Experience gained within a Graduate Mechanical Engineer, Assistant Engineer or similar role.
  • Experience with in a building services consultancy environment.
  • Knowledge of industry-standard design software such as AutoCAD, Revit, Hevacomp, IES or TAS.
  • Experience working on projects within sectors such as Defence, Education, Justice, Transport or Rail.
  • Membership of, or progression towards membership of, a relevant professional institution such as CIBSE or IMechE.
  • Experience undertaking site surveys and inspections.
