Full time / Permanent Role  Shape the future of critical rail infrastructure

At Babcock, we're working to create a safe and secure world, together. If you join us, you can play your part as a Civil Design Engineer.

This is an exciting opportunity to join our Rail Systems business, delivering civil engineering solutions that support major rail and infrastructure projects across the UK. You'll play a key role in producing designs that are ultimately constructed on site, helping to improve and maintain infrastructure that communities depend on every day.

The role

As a Civil Design Engineer, you'll have a role that's out of the ordinary. Working within our Civils Design team, you'll be responsible for producing and checking detailed engineering designs for a range of rail infrastructure projects, including foundations, retaining walls, station platforms and lineside structures.

You'll collaborate with Design Managers, Senior Engineers and multidisciplinary teams to deliver safe, compliant and cost-effective engineering solutions. This is an excellent opportunity to strengthen your technical expertise while contributing to the growth of a highly respected rail engineering function.

Day-to-day, you will be:
  • Producing civil engineering designs, drawings, calculations and technical documentation for rail infrastructure projects.
  • Checking and reviewing engineering designs to ensure quality, compliance and technical accuracy.
  • Designing foundations, retaining walls, station platforms, lineside structures and similar civil engineering assets.
  • Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to deliver projects safely, efficiently and to programme.
  • Supporting technical governance, design quality and project delivery objectives.

This role is full time and is based at our Birmingham or Hamilton office. Hybrid working patterns are available, with the team typically working towards three days per week on site. Working hours are 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday, with flexible working arrangements available.

Essential experience of the Civil Design Engineer:
  • Demonstrable experience producing civil engineering designs within rail, infrastructure, energy, water or similar sectors.
  • Experience using Autodesk AutoCAD to produce and check engineering designs.
  • Experience designing foundations, retaining walls, station platforms, lineside structures or similar infrastructure assets.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within multidisciplinary teams.
  • Experience delivering engineering designs to programme and quality requirements.
Qualifications for the Civil Design Engineer:
  • Degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent engineering qualification.
