Senior Finance Officer (Growing privately owned SME business) Central Birmingham (B3 – Water Street) £28-30k (rising to £32k after probation) + Excellent Working Environment Monday to Friday, on site in the office 9-5pm

Carter Rolan’s Accountancy & Finance division are currently recruiting for a Senior Finance Officer opportunity on behalf of a growing SME business operating within the Social Housing sector.

Based in Central Birmingham, this is a fantastic opportunity to join a friendly, fast-growing business where you will play a key role within the finance function and gain broad exposure across all aspects of finance.

Reporting directly into the COO and Operations Manager, this position will act as the number one finance person within the business on a day-to-day basis, supporting operational finance activities, reporting, controls and process improvement.

This role would suit someone hands‑on, proactive and commercially aware who enjoys variety and is comfortable taking ownership across multiple areas of finance within an SME environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Credit control and chasing outstanding payments
  • Managing supplier payments, remittances and reconciliations
  • Investigating discrepancies, missing transactions and financial variances
  • Preparing management accounts and supporting reporting activities
  • Profit & loss analysis and financial reporting
  • Bank reconciliations and general ledger management
  • Supporting month‑end processes and finance administration
  • Maintaining accurate financial records and controls
  • Supporting process improvements and identifying gaps within current procedures
  • Liaising with external accountants and auditors regarding year‑end activities
About You

We are looking for someone who can hit the ground running and confidently manage a broad finance workload within a busy SME environment.

You will ideally have:

  • Previous experience within a varied finance role
  • Strong understanding of transactional finance and reporting
  • Experience producing management accounts and financial analysis
  • Excellent attention to detail and problem‑solving skills
  • Confidence working independently and taking ownership
  • Strong communication and organisational skills
  • A proactive and hands‑on approach
  • Good Excel and systems skills

Whilst support and training will be provided around the business and processes, this is not considered a junior‑level finance role.
