Business Rates Officer (Birmingham)
Birmingham. Full time, permanent with hybrid working.
The candidate will work within the National Rating team’s Rates Management & Payments function to ensure that key roles are carried out to successfully deliver this service for clients. The task will require a candidate to work independently with an elevated level of accuracy managing a large volume of work. The role’s primary focus would be to manage the administration and processing of business rates bills and payments for several client accounts with support as required.
Key Responsibilities- Deliver a rates payment management service across a portfolio of clients, to include:
- Managing client’s rate liabilities through the verification of business rates bills and processing payments on their behalf
- Resolve bill and payment discrepancies, referring to senior colleagues or the Client Manager where required to protect the client's interests.
- Ensure monthly payments and payment reports are delivered to clients within agreed timelines, with no risk of missed or delayed payments.
- Train and coach junior members and assist with their development
- Utilise rating technology to manage the process
- Adhere to rules relating to RICS regulations and internal rating governance
- Business Rates Management or Payment experience (essential)
- Accurate and exceptional attention to detail
- Microsoft Office user
- Good administrator
- Experience of working with across multiple stakeholders; clients, internal senior contacts and peers
- Accountable, Flexible, responsible and dependable
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills (written and oral)
- Maintains a positive attitude towards routine tasks
- Understands and appreciates the importance of using discretion
- Team player who deals effectively with colleagues and client
- Ability to manage high volume workload and work to tight deadlines
