Commercial Finance Director

We are recruiting a Commercial Finance Director to lead the financial and commercial performance of a portfolio of complex contracts. Working closely with operational and commercial leadership, you will drive profitability, cash generation, commercial governance and risk management, ensuring contractual value is maximised and business performance continues to improve.

This is a senior leadership role requiring a strong blend of commercial finance expertise, contract management knowledge and stakeholder influence.

• Lead the commercial and financial performance of a portfolio of contracts.
• Deliver margin improvement initiatives and drive sustainable profitability.
• Optimise working capital through effective management of WIP, accrued income, invoicing and cash collection.
• Challenge forecasts, cost-to-complete assumptions, commercial risks and operational performance.
• Maximise contractual value through effective management of change control, claims and commercial opportunities.
• Ensure robust commercial governance across bids, contract mobilisations, extensions and renewals.
• Partner with operational, procurement and commercial teams to improve performance and drive value creation.
• Build and maintain senior client relationships, leading commercial discussions and negotiations.
• Lead, develop and mentor commercial finance and commercial professionals.
• Embed strong commercial controls, policies and compliance standards across the portfolio.

• Professionally qualified (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent) or possess comparable commercial experience.
• Significant senior-level experience in commercial finance, commercial management or contract leadership within a project-based environment.
• Proven success in improving profitability and commercial performance across multiple contracts or business units.
• Strong understanding of working capital management, cash conversion, WIP and revenue recognition.
• Experience managing complex contracts, commercial risk and change control processes.
• Demonstrable ability to influence and challenge senior stakeholders.
• Track record of building high-performing teams and developing talent.
• Strong client-facing, negotiation and relationship management skills.
• Excellent commercial judgement, communication skills and attention to detail.
• High levels of integrity, accountability and leadership capability.
