About the RoleThe Counter Terrorism Policing (CTP) network stretches across the UK with specialist officers and staff working in a range of fields to thwart terrorist planning and bring offenders to justice. At the West Midlands Counter Terrorism Unit (CTPWM) we coordinate the regional counter‑terrorist response and support police forces in Staffordshire, Warwickshire, West Mercia and the West Midlands.
We are looking for a creative and motivated individual to join our team of Intelligence Analysts. Based at our modern offices near Birmingham International Airport, you will work Monday to Friday across a 36.5‑hour week with flexibility, including weekend on‑call rota. The role is office‑based only due to the sensitive nature of the material.
As part of the team, you will manage all strands of intelligence analysis at local, regional, national and international levels. Responsibilities include acquiring, evaluating, analysing and assessing secret intelligence, building intelligence pictures, collating and validating data, and providing strategic insight to support national counter‑terrorism operations.
Responsibilities- Provide comprehensive analytical products that interpret intelligence and give clear guidance to drive proactive acquisition of further intelligence and evidence.
- Identify risk, threat, vulnerabilities and opportunities in support of national security operations.
- Deliver complex evidential analysis and expert testimony at court to secure successful prosecution of terrorists.
- Provide effective horizon and environment scanning products, distilling international events to provide local impact and context.
- Supply detailed strategic analysis to inform policing senior officers and intelligence managers.
- Deliver effective presentations and briefings at local, regional and national levels.
- Maintain liaison with a variety of national agencies, including the Army, police forces/CT capabilities, local authorities and other specialists.
- Hold a relevant qualification in the subject area or have experience within a similar environment.
- Ability to collate, evaluate, structure and process data, identifying patterns, series, similarities and discrepancies.
- Experience interpreting data using recognised analytical techniques.
- Critical and strategic thinking skills, making recommendations from analytical findings to inform senior stakeholder decision‑making.
- Proficiency in computer software, including advanced Microsoft Excel.
- Experience preparing and conducting presentations.
- Demonstrable knowledge of the National Intelligence Model (NIM).
- Excellent communication skills in verbal, graphical and written forms tailored to user needs.
- Strong organisational approach to work and prioritisation, working within a team and on own initiative.
- Knowledge of current global affairs with a focus on terrorism and security.
- Experience delivering training to peers.
- Intelligence Professionalisation Programme certification.
- Experience managing intelligence within an operational context.
- Ability to design and construct databases.
- Ability to apply data science techniques, including coding.
