Job Description

This is to ensure that members of the police are fully aware and accountable for the unique powers entrusted to them and the standards of professional behaviour they swear to uphold.

The MAPPA Support Officer is a pivotal role in the management of MAPPA Nominals and the associated administration requirements to support Sex Offender Managers.

The role provides minute taking functionality for the all MAPPA Level 2s and 3 nominals managed by the Sex Offender Managers. This functionality is nationally dictated and supported by national policies. Working as part of a team responsible for the management of Registered Sex Offenders and Potentially Dangerous persons

Key responsibilities
  • To plan, prepare and manage all aspects of MAPPA meetings for Registerable Sex Offenders including taking, preparation and inputting of all minutes required onto relevant databases.
  • To update, maintain and manage all databases (CONNECT, PNC, VISOR, SHAREPOINT) used within the department by undertaking research, analysis and collation of information from all relevant sources.
    · To prepare and produce statistical data in accordance with government requirements
  • To receive and process registrations and notifications to register, ensuring that all relevant databases, including the Police National Computer (PNC), are updated with relevant information
  • To ensure that the register of violent and sex offenders is checked regularly and amended as appropriate in accordance with data protection and operational requirements
  • To establish and maintain good relations with internal and external partners, as part of the multi-agency public protection arrangements
  • To compile clear and concise information/intelligence reports.
  • To inform, give advice and liaise with management at all levels on areas of interest.
  • To liaise with other Forces regarding cross border offenders
  • Act as a point of contact for agencies providing information for MAPPA.
  • To provide legal advice on all aspects of thresholds to registration.
  • To provide advice and guidance in relation to the application of civil and criminal prevention orders.
  • To carry out any other duties commensurate with the purpose of the post.
Knowledge and Experience Essential
  • Knowledge of guidance on protecting the public: managing Sexual Offenders and Violent offenders
  • Knowledge on MAPPA Guidance
  • An understanding of intelligence management
  • To have undertaken or be willing to undertake the following mandatory training/courses:
  • Effective decision making skills and proven ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Ability to prioritise and mange a demanding workload
    · Proven computer literacy, including spread sheets and databases
  • A good knowledge of IT based systems
  • Proven report writing and interpersonal skills
  • Must be able to travel Force-wide when required
  • Ability to take handwritten concise notes at pace and produce quality MAPPA Minutes in line with MAPPA Guidance (no electronic dictation devices are allowed in MAPPA meetings)
  • Working knowledge of force policy, guidance and legislation
    · Experience in partnership working
Hours

The hours of work are 36.5 a week agreed by the managements. There will be no requirement to work outside normal Office hours (08.00x18.00) for the specific nature of this role. Unless directed locally.

Location

Digbeth Police Station, Birmingham.

Vetting

Successful applicants will be required to pass Management Vetting and Counter Terrorism Clearance prior to commencing their role, this will include a full background & financial disclosure as part of the vetting process.
