About the Role:
West Midlands Police Intelligence department are currently recruiting researchers to work within Intelligence teams based at our Headquarters at Lloyd House. The role of the researcher is to support the intelligence function through research and assessment of information, and be able to scan, identify and produce intelligence products. The researcher will also support intelligence analysts in monitoring trends and anomalies within source data, reporting findings accurately and appropriately, as well developing and maintaining relevant databases, spreadsheets and filing systems to ensure accurate, up to date information for the department.
Key responsibilities:- Support daily serious and organised crime and exploitation scanning of the previous 24 hours and weekends.
- Monitor trends and anomalies within source data, reporting findings accurately and appropriately.
- Develop and maintain relevant databases, spreadsheets and filing systems to ensure accurate, up to date information for the Threat Desks.
- Interrogate appropriate Force and National databases and systems to support intelligence development activity.
- To maintain regular Threat Desk reports and be verbally able to communicate and / or present findings to senior audiences.
- To run Business Insights, queries on relevant systems to provide analytical support to the SOCEX team and Intelligence Department, to include the collation and recording of Threat Desk performance indicators and statistical data and preparation of relevant timely management information utilising the Serious and Organised Crime/Exploitation tracker.
- To understand and assist in Threat Desk related Department reviews, audit and inspection processes.
- To actively participate in meetings and briefings where appropriate.
- To work closely with intelligence staff identifying links and crossovers between thematics and other operations.
- College of Policing Intelligence Professionalisation Programme (IPP) Qualification (to complete within 12 months of appointment), and continued IPP compliance.
- To carry out any duties commensurate with the purpose and grading of the post that may from time to time be determined.
- Able to review existing work, policy and procedure and to make recommendations in light of current thinking and best practice.
- Post holder is responsible to the department head but will normally be expected to work without direct supervision and will be required to make decisions using own initiative.
- Must possess a good level of numeracy to effectively deliver the requirements of the role.
- Experience in working with Microsoft PowerPoint, Excel and Word.
- Must have effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Able to evidence an enquiring mind-set.
- Able to manage and prioritise own workload.
- Able to demonstrate effective presentation skills.
- Knowledge and experience of applying qualitative and quantitative research methods.
The core hours of this role will be office hours Monday to Friday (36.5 hours per week). There may also be a requirement at times to travel to other locations within the Force area. Due to the nature of this role, it is essential that you're flexible in terms of your working location and are prepared to work temporarily at other locations.
