AboutThe Role
As a Senior Inspection and Enforcement Officer, you will play a key role in monitoring, auditing, and verifying the performance of service providers responsible for delivering highway maintenance and related services.
Reporting to the Principal Performance Officer, you will deliver a programme of planned and ad‑hoc inspections, ensuring that contractual obligations are met and that all work complies with required standards, legislation, and council policies.
This is a varied and hands‑on role that directly supports the effective management of the city’s highway network.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct inspections and audits to assess service provider performance against contractual, technical, and legal requirements.
- Deliver both scheduled and ad‑hoc inspections, providing clear, balanced, and evidence‑based performance assessments.
- Record all findings accurately using approved systems and equipment, ensuring full auditability.
- Maintain strong working knowledge of highway standards, legislation and relevant Council policies.
- Work collaboratively across internal teams and with external service providers.
- Uphold the Council’s Equal Opportunities policies in all aspects of your work.
You will hold a relevant qualification and significant experience in:
- Experience auditing or verifying service delivery (highways experience ideal)
- Understanding of statutory highway obligations and PFI contract principles
- LANTRA trained
- Strong communication and relationship‑building skills
- Ability to analyse technical and performance data
- Confident IT user
- Commitment to excellent customer care and equality in service delivery
