Introduction to the Department

The West Midlands Regional Organised Crime Unit (ROCU WM) is a collaboration between the police forces of Staffordshire, West Midlands, West Mercia and Warwickshire. The aim of ROCU WM is to reduce the impact and increase the disruption of serious and organised crime within the region and beyond.

The Regional Economic Crime Unit (RECU) sit within ROCU WM. This is a specialist department dedicates to tackling fraud and money laundering threats and supporting the wider work of ROCU WM in line with our control strategy.

About the Role

We are looking to recruit an experienced Financial Investigator into the RECU, specifically to support the work of the PMLT.

The Proactive Money Laundering Team (PMLT) was established to work with the City of London, the NCA and other law enforcement partners with the primary aim of targeting the interception and recovery of cash and other assets gained through criminality, and lead the fight against cash based money laundering and wider associated criminality.

The successful candidate will support the team in completing financial investigations to support operation deployments in the development, execution and post enforcement phases with the ultimate aims of disrupting criminality through confiscation/forfeiture of assets and criminal prosecution where appropriate.

Training and CPD will be provided.

Key Responsibilities
  • Using investigative tools and searching, seizing and detaining cash. Preparing applications for warrants and orders using the relevant legislation to prevent criminals from profiting from the proceeds of crime.
  • Gathering, recording and sanitising financial intelligence, in line with the applicable intelligence models and the Criminal Procedure and Investigations Act 1996, to support ongoing investigations. Including interrogating specialist databases, networks and other online tools, such as investigating suspicious activity reports (SARs), in line with protocols, to support ongoing investigations. And including supporting the development of financial investigation plans.
  • Using the Proceeds of Crime Act 2002 and associated legislation, specialist gateways and external agencies to develop intelligence packages for use in financial and other investigations. And Interviewing witnesses and suspects to obtain financial intelligence, to assist with identifying financial crime and the proceeds of crime.
  • Producing criminal files and court files, using applicable case file management standards, guidance and legislation, to support a prosecution. And preparing relevant material on money laundering and financial dealings for disclosure, in liaison with crown prosecutors when necessary, to support investigations.
  • Lead by example and behave in line with the Police Code of Ethics ensuring that the force values and behavioural expectations are clearly understood and considered by managers, officers and staff in their decision making and actions; reinforcing and influencing them through all interactions and processes.

Grade: 6

WMP Grade 6: £38,169 to £44,700

Hours:

Monday to Friday 8-4 with some flexibility as required by the role.

Lloyd House, Birmingham
