Band 5 Radiopharmacy Technician - Radiopharmacy

The postholder will be part of a friendly and supportive team delivering high quality Radiopharmacy services to the Trust and its customers. The role involves assisting in the manufacture and dispensing of established radiopharmaceuticals for diagnostic and therapeutic imaging. The postholder will also have the opportunity to work in one of the small number of departments outside of London currently delivering Gallium‑68 services, providing cutting‑edge diagnostic and clinical‑trial medicines to our cancer patients.

The postholder will assist in the development and training of students, trainees and any junior staff when appropriate and will participate in the cell labelling service provided by the Radiopharmacy.

This role could suit an existing Radiopharmacy operator looking for a move, or someone who hasn't worked in this area but is interested in a change. Whilst experience in Radiopharmacy is an advantage, it is not an essential criterion, although practical experience within an aseptic field and a thorough understanding of the principles of Good Manufacturing are.

Main duties of the job

To support the work of the Radiopharmacy, performing technical duties to ensure the smooth running of the Radiopharmacy department ensuring supply of radiopharmaceuticals to QEHB Nuclear Medicine Department, as well as other purchasers of the service. This involves participating in the aseptic manufacturing and dispensing of radiopharmaceuticals in accordance with all relevant legislation.

The postholder will also be trained to fulfil other roles, for example, packing radiopharmaceuticals up for shipment, undertaking quality control testing, checking and maintaining stock levels, ordering stock as appropriate, environmental monitoring, specialist cleaning and participation in the cell labelling service.

The postholder will take part in the maintenance of the Radiopharmacy documentation system for the facility, equipment and environment, including planning daily service requirements, such as the preparation of batch / production paperwork, and maintenance of the Quality Management System. Since this role involves working with ionising radiation, the postholder will receive full training in all aspects of health and safety associated with this.

Training and development is an important aspect of the service, and the postholder would be expected to support the development and training of students, trainees and any junior staff when appropriate.

Qualifications
  • * NVQ Level 3 (Pharmacy Services) plus accredited underpinning knowledge BTEC/ City & Guilds (in Pharmaceutical Science) or equivalent as defined by the General
  • Pharmaceutical Council
  • * Postgraduate certificate in Radiopharmacy, or equivalent knowledge/expertise in the field
Experience
  • * In-depth practical experience of aseptic work.
  • * Experience of working within a pharmaceutical / radiopharmacy manufacturing / aseptic dispensing team
  • * Demonstrates an understanding of the legal responsibilities of the profession
