Job overview

We are looking for a Band 6 occupational therapist to work within the neuropsychiatry department at the Barberry National Centre for Mental Health. The post is part time, for 22.5 hours per week.

This will be an ideal opportunity for someone with an interest in working across the areas of neurology and psychiatry to gain new knowledge, skills and broaden their experience in this specialist area with patients across the West Midlands.

The post offers opportunities to improve your knowledge and skills in self-management packages, as well as initial assessments and treatment approaches for complex conditions. This will be within a well established and supportive OT team of 4 other Band 6 OTs and a Band 7 clinical specialist OT and other multidisciplinary team members.

This post would be particularly to support our outpatient occupational therapy service for people with epilepsy, chronic fatigue syndrome, functional neurological disorder and Huntington’s disease services, both online and face to face in clinic and people’s homes.

Main duties of the job

  • To manage a defined caseload of clients with complex needs, using evidence based/client centred principles to assess, plan, implement and evaluate interventions in a range of settings.
  • To maintain multidisciplinary clinical records.
  • To participate in the planning, development and evaluation of occupational therapy services within a designated service, holding responsibility for defined projects.
  • To regularly supervise occupational therapy students on placement.
  • To provide leadership for junior staff through supervision and appraisal.
  • To contribute to the maintenance and development of the trust occupational therapy service.
