Job Summary

The Royal Orthopaedic Hospital is at the leading edge of developments in orthopaedics and provides highly specialised care for a national, regional and local population.

The physiotherapy department is looking for a dynamic and enthusiastic Specialist Physiotherapist for this exciting role to lead the Paediatric Outpatient Physiotherapy Service and support the development of MSK services and physiotherapy within the Trust.

The post holder will be committed to providing an effective and efficient service for paediatric patients requiring musculoskeletal out‑patient physiotherapy treatment. This will include specialist services such as serial casting and non‑invasive prosthesis lengthening.

This role will combine clinical work with the management of the paediatric physiotherapy service. The successful candidate will be expected to manage a team including static and rotational band 6 staff and have responsibility for the development and daily running of the paediatric service.

Staff development is positively encouraged at undergraduate, post‑graduate and research levels and supported by regular in‑service training. Clinical support and development is available from a large APP team.

The department has close links with Research and Development, with audit and research actively encouraged.

Flexible working hours apply and the physiotherapy outpatient service operates extended hours and you may be required to work at weekends.

Main Duties

To be a clinical lead for Outpatient Paediatric Physiotherapy providing expert clinical knowledge and communicating with the Therapy Services Management team to coordinate and develop the Paediatric Physiotherapy Service.

  • To take a lead role in the advanced assessment and treatment of patients within the speciality of paediatric outpatient physiotherapy, providing expert clinical knowledge.
  • To act as a source of expertise on the therapy management of paediatric orthopaedic/MSK patients to other members of the MDT and external to the Trust.
  • To be responsible for co‑ordinating, delivering and evaluating the service within paediatric physiotherapy outpatients.
  • To liaise with the Senior Therapy Services Management team, other senior physiotherapy staff and members of the MDT regarding coordinated service delivery and contributing to the development of the department.
  • To act as department lead for safeguarding across physiotherapy services.
