Band 2 Clerical Officer

We are seeking motivated individuals to join the Radiology Department at University Hospital Birmingham. Successful candidate must be able to work the following shift patterns.

  • Clerical Officer based at BHH/WHH (Working 30 hours per week)
  • Shift pattern to be a combination of 8-2, 2-8, 9-3, 3-9
  • Working 5 x 6‑hour shifts across a 7‑day service to include weekends and Bank Holidays.

We are looking for individuals with experience in customer care, reception duties and excellent communication skills and must be able to work within the above shift patterns.

Main duties of the job

You will be required to work within deadlines and use your own initiative. Accuracy and attention to details are paramount. Candidates should be confident in prioritising their workload and should have experience in NHS clinical systems such as CRIS and Oceano and excellent time management skills as well as working within a team.

You will be liaising with staff, patients and external agencies, such as GP's, Dentists etc. Provide patients with support, non‑clinical advice and information on a range of issues including appointment queries.

Notify patients of new or changes to appointments.

Be sympathetic and sensitive to the requirements of staff, patients and other service users when communicating by telephone or face to face, including dealing with a difficult situation, e.g. aggressive or demanding behaviour, escalating conflict situations where necessary.

Person Specification Qualifications
  • Good General Education (e.g., GCE in A-C or GSCE Level 9‑4). A pass in English and Maths is essential
Experience
  • Experience of dealing with the public / customer service experience
  • Experience working with a range of Microsoft Office packages (e.g., Word, Excel, and Outlook)
  • Experience of using IT systems
  • Experience of working in a busy environment
  • Experience of working in healthcare
