Position: Named Professional for Safeguarding

About the role

NUPAS are recruiting a Named Professional for Safeguarding children and vulnerable adults. The role is 37.5 hours per week, paid across 5 days, and is hybrid with some travel required across the organisation. The successful candidate will work closely with senior leadership, clinical directors, and external partnership bodies to ensure safeguarding provision meets statutory and organisational standards.

Main responsibilities
  • Monitor, evaluate and review safeguarding procedures to minimise risk.
  • Carry out audits of safeguarding practice and report findings.
  • Provide expert advice and clinical expertise to all staff, ensuring day‑to‑day safeguarding support is available.
  • Ensure high‑quality supervision is provided to clinical staff, with attendance recorded centrally.
  • Collaborate with the Named Doctor and Executive Safeguarding Lead to develop policy and practice.
  • Represent NUPAS at case conferences, strategy meetings and serious case reviews, supporting staff who attend.
  • Lead on the safeguarding training strategy, audit training needs and monitor attendance.
  • Facilitate reporting on safeguarding with the Head of Nursing and Executive Safeguarding Lead, identifying any risks.
  • Contribute to the safeguarding annual report and contract reporting requirements.
  • Update, review and implement safeguarding policies and procedures, reflecting evidence‑based practice and legislative updates.
  • Manage safeguarding email triage, data collation and task management.
  • Report on the position of safeguarding to senior leadership on a regular basis.
  • Provide effective leadership in monitoring and evaluating practice standards, working with service leads to meet targets.
  • Participate in serious case reviews, ensuring recommendations are implemented and audited.
  • Advise on safeguarding expertise for service improvement projects.
  • Represent NUPAS within the Integrated Care System and partner organisations.
  • Maintain knowledge of legislative frameworks, national guidance and local procedures.
  • Ensure utilisation and development of evidence‑based guidelines to improve safeguarding services.
  • Keep up to date with emerging thinking and findings from other providers and national guidance.
  • Support organisational audit and benchmarking activities, implementing changes where appropriate.
Person specification Qualifications
  • NMC Registered Nurse or Midwife
  • Level 5 Safeguarding Supervision/Training certification
Experience and skills
  • Excellent communication skills, oral and written.
  • Demonstratable leadership abilities across professional boundaries.
  • Self‑discipline and effective time management.
  • Teaching skills.
  • In‑depth knowledge and practical experience of compliance within healthcare.
  • Experience of working with women's healthcare and abortion services.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to translate data into meaningful action.
  • Self‑motivated team player, comfortable working alone and as part of a wider team.
  • Willingness to travel nationally to provide safeguarding supervision and training.
  • Experience of safeguarding audit and inter‑agency working.
  • Experience working with pregnant women with complex medical/social needs.
  • Knowledge of current safeguarding legislation, guidance and procedures.
  • Awareness of current professional issues within midwifery, nursing and NHS.
  • Understanding of resource management, health and safety, clinical risk and quality issues.
  • Knowledge/understanding of confidentiality issues.
  • Awareness of equality and diversity.
  • Awareness of self‑care strategies for self and others.
  • Supports a woman's reproductive choices.
  • Full UK driving licence.
Other requirements
  • Disclosure and Barring Service check.
  • Compliance with the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975.
Salary and working pattern

£56,452.50 per year; 5 days per week (7.5 hrs per day) – total 37.5 hrs.
