Band 6 Quality Assurance Practitioner - Radiotherapy
Quality Assurance within Radiotherapy ensures the department’s practices meet national care standards, support ISO 9001:2015 compliance, and enable continuous service improvement.
Job Summary and Responsibilities- Support the QA Lead Practitioner for 2 days a week in managing the Quality Management System and providing specialist advice to senior clinicians, radiographers, physicists, and managers.
- Develop, review and implement QA policies, protocols, SOPs and produce governance and regulatory reports.
- Deliver training to radiographers on QA processes and best practice.
- Participate in clinical audits, service improvement initiatives and accreditation programmes.
- Translate national and organisational policies into clear operational guidance for staff.
- Cover the QA Lead Practitioner during absences.
- Work clinically as a Senior Therapeutic Radiographer Monday to Friday, including extended day hours, bank holidays and occasional weekends.
Essential:
- Qualified Radiographer (Diploma of the College of Radiographers – Therapy / Degree in Therapeutic Radiography)
- Specialist course or equivalent postgraduate diploma in Therapeutic Radiography/Radiotherapy
- Current state registration
- Attendance of recent relevant postgraduate courses and study days (including assessment of undergraduates)
- Evidence of commitment to further professional development relating to quality
Desirable:
- Evidence of MSc level study
- Quality System Auditor Training
- Electronic Quality Management System database training
Essential:
- Experience at a senior radiographer grade, leading and organising a team of radiographers
- Extensive knowledge of ISO 9001 or equivalent quality standards
- Knowledge of research governance issues
- In‑depth knowledge of policies, regulations and guidelines for quality system operation and clinical procedures in radiotherapy (including ionising radiation)
- Knowledge of Health and Safety legislation within radiotherapy
- Experience in assessing and teaching radiographers and trainee radiographers
- Experience of developing staff clinically and professionally
- Specialist knowledge of cancer pathology and disease patterns
- Specialist knowledge of clinical radiotherapy, radiation risks, acute patient side effects and their management
- Awareness of national cancer standards and professional guidelines
- Knowledge of national developments in radiotherapy techniques
- Ability to manage clinical risk issues and develop action plans
Desirable:
- Experience of undertaking clinical audits and surveys
- Excellent written, verbal and non‑verbal communication skills across professional boundaries
- Strong technical and manual dexterity for operating equipment in a fast‑moving technological environment
- Excellent computer skills and ability to interrogate the oncology management system
- Proven leadership, organisational and decision‑making skills
- Demonstrable reasoning skills and initiative in complex situations
- Ability to assimilate information and formulate ideas and projects
- Flexibility to undertake a wide range of duties across the department
- Capability to conduct research and audits
- Approachable, professional, reliable and punctual team member
- Willingness to work extended hours, including bank holidays and some weekends
Permanent; full‑time with flexible working. Hybrid clinical and QA duties.
