Job overviewAn exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated and experienced individual to join our existing secretarial team at Sandwell and West Birmingham NHS Trust, working within the ENT Department based at Sandwell Health Campus.
The role will require strong communication skills and knowledge of Cancer Pathways; knowledge of RTT is desirable.
Full‑time secretaries provide full secretarial support to 2 consultants and their junior doctors; part‑time secretaries support 1 consultant and their junior doctors.
Main duties of the jobAs the Medical Secretary, you will manage the administrative processes associated with patient pathways and contribute to the overall effectiveness of clinical teams, including patient experience, patient flow and waiting list management.
You will provide secretarial and administrative support to consultants and clinical teams, support the delivery of high quality coordinated and integrated care, and liaise with patients, carers, GPs and other service users.
You will book appointments for patients on cancer pathways within national targets and raise any capacity issues with the line manager.
Robust knowledge of IT systems and ability to work with multiple systems at the same time is required. Excellent typing speed and grammar are also desirable.
Person specification Experience- Substantial experience within the NHS
- Knowledge of waiting list / patient management systems
- Knowledge of PAS systems and other relevant databases
- Cancer Services knowledge and/or experience
- Experience of managing 18‑week pathways
- GCSE English and Maths Grade C and above
- Excellent IT skills, including complex databases
- AMPSAR qualification or evidence of extensive knowledge of medical terminology
- RSA Typing Level 2 or equivalent
- NVQ3 in a relevant subject (e.g., Business Administration) or willingness to work towards
The postholder will have access to vulnerable people in the course of their normal duties and as such this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020. Disclosure to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions will be required.
