An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Radiology Department at Birmingham Women's Hospital for an enthusiastic and well‑motivated sonographer to join our dedicated team at Birmingham Women's and Children's Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.

We are seeking to recruit a highly skilled Sonographer/Midwife Sonographer to join our team of dynamic and welcoming staff, to promote and deliver a family focused and user‑friendly radiology service.

The post holder will be based at Birmingham Women's Hospital and will have recent clinical experience and knowledge in obstetric and/or gynaecological ultrasound, always using best practice, and promoting a positive patient experience and environment.

The work is varied, enabling a good scope of advanced practice including obstetrics, gynaecology, abdominal and paediatric ultrasound.

The standard operational hours are Monday to Friday 08:30 - 17:00. Full time hours and part time hours are available and extended days/flexible working hours will be considered. Participation in out or hours work will also be required.

Main duties of the job

The aim of this role is to work as an independent Sonographer, performing all aspects of obstetric and/or gynaecological ultrasound examinations to a high standard, formulating concise and accurate reports and communicating results to the appropriate clinician. In this manner, delivering a safe, effective and efficient service that meets both patient/families/carers, and staff requirements.

The post holder will:

Prioritise, justify and manage workload as an individual and as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Provide theoretical and clinical training for Trainee Sonographers, Specialist Registrars.

Be required to work collaboratively with clinical, managerial and admin colleagues to develop and enhance ultrasound imaging services.

The post holder will be responsible on a rotational basis for leading the shift, undertaking a co‑ordinating role for the day to day planning and delivery of the department's operational workload. This person will be expected to deputise for the clinical manager in their absence.

Be responsible for own CPD and professional and personal development through personal study, reflection, attendance at MDT meetings and ultrasound education meetings.

Follow policies, procedures and protocols relating to and underpinning the ultrasound service in line with national guidance.
