Job summary

Are you a compassionate and committed clinical psychologist who champions inclusivity and making healthcare more psychologically-informed? Would you like to join our service to help facilitate coping and adjustment to the impact of Motor Neurone Disease (MND) and improve the mental health and wellbeing of those affected by MND and teams supporting them?

We are seeking an enthusiastic and committed Clinical Psychologist to develop our new MND Psychology Service, delivering a pilot service funded by a generous grant from the MND Association that we will be seeking to be embed as a permanent service with your leadership, support and service development skills.

You will be welcomed by multidisciplinary colleagues across cancer services who highly value the expertise of psychological professionals, with the MND Care Centre in Birmingham being one of the biggest in the UK. You will also be a valued colleague in our Department of Psychological Services, housing significant clinical health and clinical neuropsychology expertise, as well as working alongside a network of similar postholders nationally.

Main duties of the job
  • To undertake highly specialist psychological assessment and treatment interventions to referred patients and to provide reports on the above.
  • To hold and manage a caseload of patients with psychological difficulties related to or impacting on care within clinical health inpatient and/or outpatient psychological services.
  • To undertake specific duties as requested, pertaining to clinical and service governance objectives including planning, data collection and analysis, report writing and presentation. This will necessitate the substantive use of IT equipment and software.
  • To undertake the supervision of Clinical Psychology Trainees and to coordinate clinical placements within the team.
  • To work as part of the wider Department of Psychological Services, engaging in sharing of clinical experience, professional development opportunities, shared governance and being an advocate for the profession across University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust.
  • To undertake and contribute to teaching, training, supervision, health promotion, research and related activities of the service and affiliated organisations to the Trust as relevant to this post.
  • To liaise with professional colleagues, operational managers, referral agencies, affiliated organisations and academic departments as relevant to this post.
