Job Summary

Ward 32 is a 24 bedded Acute Stroke Unit Ward looking for a highly motivated, compassionate and enthusiastic Band 6 Sister/Charge Nurse to join our dedicated team. Our patients are looked after by a dedicated and knowledgeable stroke team made up of specialist nurses, doctors, physiotherapist, occupational therapists, speech and language therapists and dietitians. This multi-disciplinary team provides the highest standard of care to our patients and works to empower patients to achieve their goals.

Our patients will be always treated with dignity and respect. You will have the opportunity to care for patients from diverse backgrounds with varied clinical presentations, while working alongside a friendly, experienced, and supportive multidisciplinary team. We are looking for an experienced nurse who is passionate about stroke care, clinically confident and motivated to lead and develop others. You will demonstrate excellent communication and leadership skills, a commitment to maintaining high standards of patient care, and the ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.

As a Band 6 Sister/Charge Nurse, you will support the Ward Manager and wider senior team in maintaining high standards of clinical care, patient safety, and ward leadership. You will be expected to provide visible leadership, coordinate the clinical area, support staff development, and deputise for the Ward Manager when required. The role includes day, night, weekend, and bank holiday working.

Main duties of the role
  • Acting as a visible clinical leader, supporting junior colleagues in the delivery of high-quality care
  • Be an active senior member of the ward MDT
  • Taking charge of shifts & use analytical skills to problem solve
  • Participation in the non-clinical aspects of Ward Management, supporting the Senior Charge Nurse with complaints, sickness management, governance, audits etc.

Person specification Qualifications
  • Registered Adult Nurse on the NMC register
  • Health care management / leadership qualification
Experience
  • Substantial post registration experience working in a complex health care setting / Acute NHS care setting supervising / mentoring junior staff
  • Evidence of professional /clinical knowledge in area supplemented by specialist clinical and or managerial training and CPD
  • Can demonstrate understanding / experience / willingness to be a practice based supervisor / assessor as detailed in the Nursing & Midwifery Council ( NMC ) standards for student supervision and assessment
  • Professional portfolio which demonstrates continuing professional development, evidence of ability to maintain professional registration
