To deliver advanced orthotics assessment, advice and treatment of patients and act as a source of expertise to fellow clinicians, Trust managers, Healthcare Professionals and other services internal and external to the Trust as required.
To lead in the advanced therapeutic assessment, management and treatment of orthotics patients, possibly with diverse presentations and complex physical and psychological conditions including pain and rheumatology to develop and deliver an individualised specialist treatment programme.
To work under the supervision of consultants in clinic settings as and when or/if required and to assist in the 18 week targets. Site of working will be flexible based on the service need (A main site will be identified)
To lead in the training and service development of clinical practice. To undertake clinical audits and evaluation of evidence-based practice, initiating/participating in research within specialist area.
To use a high degree of analytical skills and judgment to plan, develop and implement strategic and operational management and delivery of the orthotics service, in collaboration with Lead therapist and Managers.
To manage, supervise and appraise staff and students within the specialist area
Main duties of the jobTo lead within the Orthotics Team under the direction of the MSK Therapy Lead, providing specialist assessment, treatment and management of patients with complex physical and psychological presentations. Effectively manage a diverse caseload, balancing service delivery, patient needs and professional priorities.
Lead, supervise and participate in evidence-based audit, research and service improvement activities
Use advanced communication skills, including persuasion, negotiation and motivation, to address concerns, manage informal complaints and overcome barriers to communication
Communicate effectively with patients, carers, multidisciplinary teams and external agencies to maximise rehabilitation outcomes and ensure understanding of conditions, treatment plans and the therapeutic process. Demonstrate empathy, reassurance and sensitivity when supporting patients, families and colleagues.
Promote awareness of Orthotics through presentations, conferences, education events and partnership working. Lead and contribute to multidisciplinary meetings and case conferences, resolving complex or conflicting issues through effective verbal and written communication.
Demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills, negotiating priorities and maintaining effective working relationships.
Provide day-to-day leadership, management and professional support within the specialist area, including staff supervision, appraisal, development and participation in recruitment processes.
