At Everyturn Mental Health, we're passionate about supporting people to improve their mental health and wellbeing. We are looking for a compassionate, motivated and experienced Children & Young People's Senior Mental Health Support Worker to join our CYP Safe Haven service in Newcastle.

This is an exciting opportunity to support children and young people experiencing emotional distress, providing timely, person-centred support in a safe, welcoming environment. Alongside delivering high-quality one-to-one support, you'll play a key role in supporting the Team Lead with service coordination and providing guidance to colleagues across the wider delivery team.

About the role

As a Senior Mental Health Support Worker, you'll work directly with children and young people to help reduce crisis intensity, build resilience and develop practical strategies to manage their mental health and wellbeing.

This is a part-time (22.5 hours per week) role, contracted until December 2027.
This role is not eligible for sponsorship as is does not meet the requirements as set out by the UK Visa and Immigration Service You will:
  • Provide one-to-one mental health support to children and young people accessing the CYP Safe Haven service.
  • Create a safe, welcoming and inclusive environment both in person and online.
  • Use active listening, de-escalation techniques and effective communication to understand individual needs.
  • Co-produce safety plans and support young people to develop confidence and coping strategies.
  • Provide information, guidance and signposting to appropriate services.
  • Support the Team Lead with aspects of service coordination, including rota management, peer support and reporting.
  • Act as a source of guidance and support for colleagues within the service.
  • Maintain accurate records and contribute to service monitoring and evaluation.
  • Promote safeguarding and respond appropriately to concerns in line with organisational policies.
About you

We're looking for someone who is passionate about improving outcomes for children and young people and who has experience supporting those experiencing mental health difficulties.

You will have:

  • Experience working with children and young people experiencing mental health difficulties within education, youth work, health or social care settings.
  • A relevant qualification in working with children and young people (minimum Diploma level or equivalent).
  • Knowledge of issues affecting young people's mental health and wellbeing.
  • Experience of assessing needs, triaging referrals and supporting access to appropriate services.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Experience of working as part of a team and contributing to peer support and supervision.
  • The ability to work independently and manage competing priorities.
  • A good understanding of safeguarding responsibilities when working with children and young people
Working pattern

The CYP Safe Haven operates seven days a week. This role works as part of a rolling rota covering a 7-day shift pattern
, including evenings, weekends and bank holidays where required (enhancements paid)
