Job summary

The Lead Nurse for Gynaecology and Colposcopy is responsible for the clinical leadership, management, and delivery of high-quality, patient-centred care within gynaecology and colposcopy services.

The post holder will provide expert clinical practice, ensure compliance with national standards (e.g., cervical screening programme requirements), lead service development, and support staff to deliver safe, effective, and compassionate care.

The role includes oversight of colposcopy clinics, supporting early detection and management of cervical abnormalities, and working collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams.

The post holder will already be a colposcopist and become the Trusts Named Lead Colposcopist.

Qualifications/Training and professional development Essential
  • Registered Nurse
  • Qualified Colposcopist
  • Evidence of mentorship or equivalent teaching and assessing qualification or evidence of providing specialist education and/or training to other staff
Desirable
  • Training in Quality Improvement
  • Has or is working towards a masters level or equivalent qualification
Experience Essential
  • Experience of working in Gynaecology with a developed specialist knowledge in women's reproductive health
  • The ability to actively participate in Clinical Governance including writing and reviewing guidelines, audit, and report writing
  • Experience of professional leadership and line management
Desirable
  • Experience of transformation including instigating change at an operational level
  • Experience of being involved in research projects
Skills and attributes Essential
  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written with the ability to influence all levels
  • The ability to work automously as an independent practitioner as well as an active member of the MDT
  • Ability to evaluate services for change based on patient feedback, and local and national standards
  • Ability and confidence to perform presentations, and represent the Trust at external meetings
Desirable
  • Experience in the complaints process with the ability to respond sensitivity and compassionately to service users.
