About the role
We’re looking for a Workforce Development Apprentice to join our People & Culture team and help support learning, development and emerging talent activity across the West Midlands Combined Authority.
As part of the WMCA Apprentice Development Programme, you'll join a structured early careers pathway designed to support and develop the next generation of public sector professionals. Alongside your apprenticeship qualification, you'll benefit from mentoring, networking opportunities, peer learning and a dedicated development programme to help you build confidence and skills for your future career.
About the roleThis role sits within the Workforce Development & Professions team, supporting the delivery of learning and development initiatives across the WMCA Academy, Emerging Talent programmes and wider workforce development activity.
Working alongside Workforce Development Partners and colleagues from across the organisation, you'll gain experience across the full learning and development cycle. You'll support learning programmes, coordinate events and activities, engage with learners and stakeholders, maintain records and data, and help evaluate the impact of our development programmes.
This is an excellent opportunity to develop practical skills while working towards the Level 3 Learning & Development Practitioner Apprenticeship Standard.
What you'll be doingYou'll support a wide range of activities across workforce development, including:
- Coordinating meetings, workshops, learner events and development activities.
- Supporting learner communications, bookings and mailbox management.
- Maintaining records, trackers, stakeholder lists and programme documentation.
- Supporting apprenticeship levy monitoring and workforce development requests.
- Assisting with surveys, learner feedback and programme evaluation activities.
- Supporting the development of learning resources, guidance materials and digital content.
- Helping to deliver workshops, induction sessions and learner events.
- Supporting WMCA Academy communications and engagement activity.
- Working with colleagues across the organisation to promote learning opportunities.
- Assisting with basic financial administration, including purchase orders and invoices.
- Contributing ideas to improve learner experience, engagement and accessibility.
Throughout the apprenticeship you'll receive support, training and opportunities to develop your knowledge of learning and development, workforce planning and talent development.
We’re looking for someone who is enthusiastic, organised and keen to learn. You don't need previous experience in learning and development. We’re interested in your potential and your willingness to develop new skills.
You'll need:
- Experience of working as part of a team through school, volunteering, employment or other activities.
- Awareness of Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel and Outlook.
- Good analytical skills and the ability to review information and identify an appropriate approach.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Good attention to detail and accuracy.
- The ability to manage your time and prioritise tasks effectively.
- A willingness to learn, take initiative and develop new skills.
- The ability to work collaboratively with others.
- The ability to work effectively in a hybrid working environment.
- An interest in learning, development, training or talent development.
- GCSE English and Maths at Grade 4/C or above (or equivalent, such as Level 2 Functional Skills).
- A willingness to complete the Level 3 Learning & Development Practitioner Apprenticeship.
The location for this role is Summer Lane, Birmingham with at least 2 ays a week spent in the office.
