Principal Technical and Infrastructure Specialist

We’re looking for a dynamic leader to manage and develop our hyperconverged environments, cloud applications, and data systems. As the go-to expert, you’ll transform our Digital and Data services, ensuring compliance and best practices. You’ll collaborate across departments, providing top-notch support and advice on storage, compute, and backup solutions.

You'll also play a crucial role in modernising our platforms and supporting critical systems, and help us drive continuous improvement and innovation in our Digital and Data platforms.

What you will be doing:

• Manage and develop hyperconverged infrastructure.
• Implement solutions aligned with the Digital and Data Strategy.
• Set best practices and maintain technical documentation.
• Provide 3rd line IT support and handle escalations.
• Manage complex support issues and projects.
• Research and implement solutions based on business needs.
• Mentor junior team members and lead knowledge transfer.
• Promote automation across workloads.
• Ensure data backup, restore, and disaster recovery readiness.
• Collaborate with Cyber Security and Data Protection Officer.
• Work with external suppliers to implement solutions.
• Stay updated with emerging cloud technologies.
• Participate in Out of Hours 24/7 support rota.

What’s essential:

• Qualified to degree level in an IT related discipline.
• Demonstrable experience within Nutanix and VMWare hyperconverged and infrastructure environments, including but not limited to Cloud and on-prem virtual storage and server environments, Latest Server OS features and backup and restore technologies.
• Demonstrable experience administering, configuring and designing a multisite and hybrid cloud enterprise hyperconverged environment.
• A good understanding of hyperconverged, storage and backup infrastructure roadmaps and the ability to evaluate the applicability for business productivity solutions in accordance with the Digital and Data strategy.
• Experience of deploying hybrid cloud virtual compute and backup infrastructure solutions, such as Multi site hyperconverged infrastructure and cloud backup and restore technologies.
• Experience of undertaking appropriate impact assessment of the relevant hyperconverged, virtualization and backup environment infrastructure updates.
• Experience with integrations and migration paths from on-prem solutions to cloud solutions.
• Experience of analysing highly complex technical issues and proposed solutions.
• Experience in the design of virtualisation, storage, backup and restore infrastructure environments.
• Extensive knowledge of supporting Nutanix, VMWare, Hypervisors, Windows server operating systems and Azure virtual storage.
• Strong storage and backup/ restore process knowledge.
• Strong attention to detail and excellent customer service ethos coupled with technical and governance documentation skills.
• Knowledge and experience of working across all technologies within backup and restore, hyperconverged and compute environments, ensuring best use of the right technology for the business requirement.
• Skilled in advanced troubleshooting across VMWare, MS servers.
• Knowledge of scripting technologies, superficially for systems administration.
• Virtual server environments.

Location:
The location for this role is 16 Summer Lane, Birmingham, B19 3SD
with at least 2 days a week spent in the office.
