Job Description & How to Apply Below

My client is looking for an experienced, confident and highly practical First-Line Field Support Engineer to join us on an initial three-month contract.

You must be able to be DBS cleared and have a clean, UK driving licence with your own transport. Expenses are paid.

Your new role

This is a hands-on, field-based position supporting charitable organisations across Birmingham and the surrounding areas. The successful candidate will spend a significant proportion of the working day driving between locations, resolving technical issues directly with users and completing equipment deployments and other IT support activities.

This is not a traditional office-based or service-desk position. The engineer will predominantly work independently in the field and must be confident diagnosing and resolving technical problems without direct on-site support.

  • Provide first-line technical support directly to users across multiple locations.
  • Diagnose and resolve hardware, software, user account, connectivity and Microsoft 365 issues.
  • Install, configure and deploy laptops, desktop computers, mobile devices and associated equipment.
  • Support Microsoft 365 deployments, user migrations and account changes.
  • Configure user profiles, applications, printers and peripheral devices.
  • Troubleshoot Microsoft 365 applications, Windows & Mac devices, networks, Wi-Fi and printing issues.
  • Replace, move, reconnect and physically install IT equipment where required.
  • Follow established technical documentation, deployment processes and knowledge-base instructions.
  • Maintain accurate records of work completed, equipment deployed and unresolved issues.
  • Escalate more complex incidents appropriately, providing clear diagnostic information.
  • Communicate professionally with users at all levels, including those with limited technical knowledge.
  • Manage their own daily workload and travel schedule across multiple sites.

What you'll need to succeed

  • Previous experience working in a first-line IT support or field engineering role.
  • Practical experience delivering Microsoft 365 deployments or migrations.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft 365, including Outlook, Teams, One Drive, SharePoint and Intune.
  • Good working knowledge of Windows laptops and desktop computers.
  • Strong hardware and software troubleshooting skills.
  • Experience installing, configuring, deploying and replacing IT equipment.
  • Experience supporting users in the field rather than solely from behind a service desk.
  • The ability to follow technical documentation and use a knowledge-management system effectively.
  • The ability to identify when an issue needs to be escalated and provide clear technical information.
