- Administer and support Progress Open Edge databases across development, test, and production environments.
- Monitor database health, availability, capacity, and performance.
- Troubleshoot and resolve database failures, outages, locking issues, crashes, and connectivity problems.
- Perform database performance tuning, including query, index, transaction, memory, and resource optimization.
- Manage backups, restores, disaster recovery, and data replication activities.
- Analyze database logs, alerts, and system metrics to identify root causes.
- Support Progress/Open Edge upgrades, patching, migrations, and environment refreshes.
- Collaborate with application, infrastructure, and development teams to resolve production issues.
- Participate in incident management, root-cause analysis, and preventive action planning.
- Automate routine DBA activities using Scripting and maintain operational runbooks.
- Ensure database security, access controls, maintenance, and compliance requirements are followed.
- Provide on-call and production support as required.
Skills and Experience:
- Strong experience as a Progress Open Edge DBA in production environments.
- Hands‑on expertise in Progress database architecture, configuration, administration, and troubleshooting.
- Proven experience handling database failures and high‑priority production incidents.
- Strong knowledge of Progress database performance tuning and optimization.
- Experience with database locks, transactions, indexes, storage, memory, and resource utilization.
- Expertise in backup, restore, disaster recovery, and replication processes.
- Good understanding of Progress ABL and SQL for application and query analysis.
- Experience working on Linux and/or Windows environments.
- Knowledge of monitoring tools and Scripting using Bash, Power Shell, Python, or similar.
- Strong analytical, communication, documentation, and problem‑solving skills.
- Experience working in an incident, change, and problem management environment.
- Experience supporting large‑scale or business‑critical Progress/Open Edge applications.
- Knowledge of Open Edge versions, upgrades, and high‑availability solutions.
- Experience with enterprise monitoring, ITIL processes, and 24x7 production support.
