Senior Legal Counsel - Commercial

SENIOR LEGAL COUNSEL | 8+ PQE | 12-MONTH FTC | BIRMINGHAM

BCL Legal is working with a highly regarded national firm to recruit a Senior Commercial Lawyer for their in‑house Office of Legal Counsel team based in Birmingham. This role is available on a 12‑month fixed‑term contract and offers the opportunity to take on a senior, autonomous position with close involvement in high‑impact projects across the firm.

As a Senior Commercial Lawyer, you will:

• Lead, manage, and oversee complex legal agreements, work streams, and documentation, providing strategic, solutions‑focused legal advice.
• Collaborate closely with senior stakeholders, including Directors and Partners, to deliver high‑level legal advice on commercial contracts and new products.
• Manage risk mitigation, advise on legal aspects of third‑party technologies, and ensure compliance with applicable laws and industry standards.
• Provide governance support, focusing on compliance, cyber‑security, and ethical decision‑making.
• Coach and mentor junior colleagues, ensuring quality assurance in the work produced by the legal team.
• Stay up to date with legal developments and provide excellent, commercially sound legal advice on a wide range of issues.

To be successful in this role, you will:

• Have 8‑10 years' PQE with significant experience in commercial contracts, legal risk management, and technology‑related matters, including data protection and privacy law.
• Possess strong commercial acumen, excellent negotiation skills, and a pragmatic, solutions‑oriented approach.
• Be a self‑starter with the ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities in a fast‑paced environment.
• Have the ability to translate complex legal matters into clear, concise, and actionable advice for non‑legal stakeholders.
• Show a commitment to professional excellence, continuous learning, and fostering a positive, collaborative team culture.

This role sits within the Office of Legal Counsel, a dynamic and growing function that plays a critical role in supporting the firm's strategic direction. The team is responsible for providing legal support on contracting, commercial services, and legal risk management, while also shaping the firm's commercial strategy and risk frameworks.
