Position: School Caretaker Job Vacancy based in Small Heath

Overview

Job title: School Caretaker

Location: Small Heath

Contract Type: Full-time, Temporary (until July 2026), with the possibility of extension or a permanent position for the right candidate.

Working Hours: Shift pattern (Monday to Friday):

  • Early Shift: 5:45am – 1:30pm
  • Late Shift: 10:30am – 6:30pm

Start Date: ASAP

About the Role

We are seeking a reliable and proactive School Caretaker to join a busy and welcoming school in Small Heath. This is an excellent opportunity for an individual with strong maintenance and site management skills who takes pride in creating a safe, secure, and well-maintained environment for pupils, staff, and visitors.

The successful candidate will play a key role in the day-to-day operation of the school site, ensuring that the premises remain safe, compliant, and fully operational at all times.

Key Responsibilities
  • Ensure the security, maintenance, and general upkeep of the school premises.
  • Carry out routine maintenance tasks and minor repairs.
  • Maintain school buildings and grounds to a high standard of cleanliness, safety, and presentation.
  • Assist with the preparation and set-up of rooms and facilities for school events and activities.
  • Respond promptly to maintenance issues to minimise disruption to the school day.
  • Support health and safety compliance across the site.
About You
  • Previous experience in a caretaker, facilities, site management, or maintenance role.
  • Good practical skills with the ability to carry out a range of minor repairs and maintenance tasks.
  • Sound understanding of health and safety regulations and procedures.
  • Ability to work independently and manage workloads effectively.
  • Reliable, organised, and proactive approach to work.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • An Enhanced DBS check is required.
  • Available to start immediately.
