Job Summary
The Design PM leads on behalf of the Lead Design Manager all aspects of the design, including coordination, programme tracking, design consultant communications, submission, deliverables management, compliance, engineering and assurance, maintaining and updating the design programme and DMP (WI300 5.3) for the Curzon station aspects of the HS2 Curzon project. The Design Manager liaises with the Principal Designer, HS2 Ltd, and manages, coordinates, integrates and certifies on behalf of the Lead Design Manager that the works for the new Curzon station have been constructed in accordance with the design.
Key Responsibilities- Drive and track the detailed design programmes of the remaining WPs from IDCs to IFCs.
- In collaboration with the DMs, be responsible for the project‑wide design programme control and manage design programme change.
- Be responsible for regular, dashboard‑based design status reporting and escalation.
- Liaise closely with the HS2 Design PM to ensure clear and consistent messaging on design.
- Control and reporting of WPs deliverables progress including control of reviews, acceptance and escalation.
- Ensure TIDP’s and MIDP’s are produced in a timely manner and ensure deliverables are tracked through the assurance process.
- With support of the SPMs, DMs inc MEP and systems integration manager, ensure the MEP and fit‑out DRMs are fully developed.
- The Design Manager provides leadership to the team to create and develop the culture and behaviours to meet the HS2 Construction Partner Objectives in collaboration with all parties as described in WI830 (Collaboration).
- Support the Lead Design Manager in leading a multi‑disciplinary team and subcontractors maintaining an uncompromising commitment to safety and a collaborative approach to meet the design and construction programme; the incentive target; achieve exemplary quality and sustainability standards; ensuring correct resourcing and incentivisation.
- Supporting the Lead Design Manager in preparing, implementing and maintaining up to date the Design Management Plan (DMP).
- To manage design costs, programme, risk & opportunities and change.
- Excellent communication skills (including presentation skills) in English, both written and verbal, and the ability to report at both Project and Board level.
- Ability to manage teams of people in a multi‑disciplinary environment. Excellent organisational skills and the ability to plan ahead and manage own time.
- A good working knowledge of the:
- Health & Safety at Work Act 1974,
- Construction Health, Safety and Welfare Regulations 1996,
- Construction Design and Management Regulations 2015,
- Management of Health & Safety at Work Regulations 1999,
- and other relevant legislation.
- Experience with in a similar role within an appropriately sized engineering organisation.
- Educated to degree or higher level or equivalent in a numerate discipline, typically Engineering discipline (or related).
- Membership of an appropriate Professional body, typically Chartered member of Institute of Civil Engineering or an international equivalent professional status.
